“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.”

"I really enjoyed this semester! I've learned so much about web designing over the past few weeks. I don't think I could have ever done that well without this class! I wanted to say thanks for all that you do! I really appreciate how willing you are to help your students as well. I can't wait for the next class!" ~ Student, Web Design I

In today's Internet-dependent world, having a basic familiarity with the languages that build the web is an important part of a well-rounded education. Even if a student doesn't plan to become a web designer or programmer, having the ability to maintain a personal or company website is a significant advantage. Web Design I will give students the knowledge and skills needed to create and administer basic web pages, whether as a hobby or as a stepping stone to an eventual career.

You can view pages created by students in this class here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

As an additional benefit, Web Design I continues the Living the Answer tradition of education that focuses on understanding and reasoning, not merely the memorization of information. Unlike many courses which simply teach the student how to perform specific tasks without really grasping the significance of what they are doing, Web Design I will help students to understand the underlying logic and structure of what they are learning. When taught properly, web design fosters creativity, logic, and critical thinking, providing a valuable addition to any high school education.

Students will learn,

Beginning in 2014, this class will be offered in the summer as an online, 10-week intensive worth half a high school credit. Combined with Web Design II, it is worth a full credit. Anticipate 3-4 hours of homework per week, in addition to the lecture, for the average student. The primary instruction will come through the live lecture, plus email discussion with the instructor if the student encounters a problem, but we will use Beginning HTML, XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript as the text and reference resource.

The class is intended for ages 14-18. Grades will be based on quizzes and assignments. A high speed Internet connection is required for this class.
