This class introduces students to foundational logic and critical thinking skills, creating the confidence and abilities necessary for higher-level rhetorical pursuits such as formal logic, debate, philosophy, and apologetics. It is basically an online version of our popular Intro to Logic and Rhetoric class, minus the public speaking element.
Students will learn how to persuasively use inductive and deductive logic, how to respond to flawed arguments, and how to detect bad reasoning. They will also learn to construct logical and persuasive arguments (knowledge that helps with essay writing as well) and how to defend their position in a discussion. Areas where parents can expect to see results from this class include:
Students will listen to ninety-minute lectures online, weekly for eight weeks, using software that provides a live, interactive experience for questions and discussion. They will benefit from access to a private, online forum where they can download class notes and ask questions. Lectures will be recorded, so a student who misses one or two weeks can catch up by watching the recording.
